Day Boswell
Day Boswell is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community
College that provides a wide variety of training, development
and consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Prior to joining MCC in 2007, Day served more than 20 years
active duty in the United States Coast Guard. She has 17 years
of internal and external management consulting and program
development experience and has held leadership roles in the
areas of quality, continuous improvement, technical and
operations.
Day has a broad range of experience in the manufacturing
arena as a project manager, team leader, supervisor, strategic
planner and facilitator. Specifically, she is skilled in total
quality, corporate training, project management, strategic
planning, lean manufacturing implementation, and performance
support systems design (including training analysis design,
development, and implementation). Her experience with business,
government and religious organizations includes high
performance work systems, organizational design and strategies,
development and implementation, organizational change
management, implementation of high performance work teams in a
union environment, and implementation of ISO 9000, 14000 and
TS 16949 Quality Management Systems.
Day holds a bachelor of science in behavioral sciences from
the University of Maryland University College and a master of
organizational communications from the University of
Connecticut. She has attended formal training in Green Belt
Six Sigma skills, Adult Learning Principles, Performance
Support Systems, ISO and TS quality system implementation,
Quality Systems Design, Change Facilitation, Lean manufacturing
tools and organizational improvement strategies. Day is a board
member of the local chapter of the International Society for
Performance Improvement (ISPI).

Dick Day
Dick Day is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community College
that provides a wide variety of training, development and
consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Dick joined MCC in 1998 as training and performance consultant
and the following year assumed the additional role of Lead
Instructor of the Region VII OSHA Training Institute Education Center
at MCC-Business & Technology. Prior to MCC, he was training services
coordinator for Management Strategies Group, where he was responsible
for coordination of training programs, development of management and
safety training curriculum, and consultation with customers. Dick
also worked as a safety consultant and instructor for On-Site Safety,
and as general manager and safety director for Di-Con & Associates.
His safety career began when he was a waterproofer and then foreman
for Commercial Waterproofing, Inc., and was instrumental in
establishing the company’s safety and health program.
Dick has provided consultation and training services to both
general industry and construction companies for the development
of their safety and health programs. He also conducts needs
analyses for business and employee bargaining agents.
Dick has presented training in a wide variety of subjects
from management skills to safety and health. His personal
experience and training have given him an excellent background
in these topics. Dick conducts approximately 1,000 hours of
training a year.
Dick holds a bachelor of science in biology from Benedictine
College. He is an authorized trainer in the Construction and
General Industry Outreach Safety and Health Programs as well
as a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Construction
Safety and Health Technician. Dick is a member of the American
Society of Safety Engineers and the Construction Safety Group
of Kansas City, and he serves on the OSHA Training Institute
Education Center Curriculum Committee.
Dick’s project experience includes:
- Design and Construction of Confined Space Trainer
Designed and oversaw the construction of the Confined
Space Trainer located in the Safety Lab at the BTC.
This trainer allows for client customized training in
an environment that simulates the client’s
permit-required confined spaces.
- Development of Lift Truck Training program for Ford Motor Claycomo Plant
Developed and implemented an extensive 4 ½ day lift truck training
program at the request of the Ford Motor Claycomo plant.
The course taught and developed the safe operational skills
of employees desiring to be lift truck operators. Truck inspection,
accurate load placement and working under stress were among the many
facets included in the training.
- Assistance with development of Virtual University
Currently adapting classroom presented course material to be
offered in a webcam/virtual university format. Students will be
able to remotely access a variety of courses which are taught in
an interactive setting between the students and the instructor.
The course participant will both see and be able to communicate
with the instructor.

Stephen Dowell
Steve Dowell is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community College
that provides a wide variety of training, development and
consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Steve joined MCC in 2008 after 12 years in the machine trades.
He began his career in Des Moines where he worked as a CNC mill &
lathe operator and an apprentice mold maker. After returning to
Kansas City in 1998, he joined R & D Tool and Engineering, where he
worked as a custom injection mold maker and then spent a year in the
prototype department, where he worked with multi-national companies
to bring new consumer product ideas to market. He also worked at a
small prototype shop in Lenexa as lead toolmaker and at Brunson
Instrument Co. as a machinist doing CNC mill work, programming,
manual machining, and precision assembly. In 2008 he joined MCC
as an adjunct instructor in advanced manual machining before
joining MCC Business & Learning Solutions later that year.
Steve holds an associate’s degree in tool and die from Des Moines
Area Community College. Through his work at companies both large and
small, he has acquired a broad knowledge and experience in the
machine trades. His attention to detail and passion for machining
show in his classroom teachings and he is committed to his own
continuous learning in the field.

Blaine Freidline
Blaine Freidline is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community College
that provides a wide variety of training, development and
consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Blaine joined Metropolitan Community College in 1986 and has 22
years of professional experience in performance consulting and the
management of performance-improvement projects. He is skilled in
process analysis and improvement, the development of user
instructions, the design of technical training curricula, and
the development of tests for qualification and certification.
He also has a broad range of training experience: from development
to delivery, from small to large groups, from the shop floor to
the board room.
Blaine holds a bachelor of science in environmental studies and
a bachelor of science education in biology.
Blaine has worked with some of the area’s largest companies to
improve their efficiency and performance. He analyzed manufacturing
processes and developed standard operating procedures for production
employees in a meat-processing plant and for another company he
developed and delivered a Chemical Handling course to several
hundred plant employees. For a local government agency he developed a
complete customer service manual for new and existing customer
service reps. He developed user documentation for many of the life
insurance underwriting processes in a company’s corporate offices
in Kansas City, and provided business process analysis, setup,
testing, end-user training development/delivery, and troubleshooting
on MCC’s own PeopleSoft software implementation project.
For a prominent start-up manufacturing facility, he managed the
development of comprehensive, multi-stage applicant assessments
and the administration of those assessments to more than 10,000
applicants for the facility’s initial 300 production jobs.

John Littleton
John Littleton is the performance consultant manager for MCC
Business & Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan
Community College that provides a wide variety of training,
development and consulting services to business and industry
in and around metropolitan Kansas City.
John came to MCC in 2006 after nearly 15 years with a local
manufacturing company where he was Lead Internal Auditor
performing audits to the ISO standard, and manufacturing manager
in charge of mechanical, electronic and nuclear switch assembly
areas. He was also an integral part of the quality review board
finding ways to continually improve processes and procedures.
John has over 15 years of manufacturing experience in the
fields of training, production management and materials
management. As a Lead Internal Auditor, he has audited various
organizations for ISO compliance, and he has also consulted on
or has been directly involved in the complete implementation
process of ISO 9001:2000. John has designed and developed
on-the-job training programs and quality programs,
implemented cellular manufacturing techniques in traditional
and nuclear assembly settings, and educated employees in many
tools for quality to include SPC, Root Cause, as well as Lean
Enterprises. He has quality systems experience in
implementing and maintaining CE, UL, and CSA requirements.
John holds a bachelor of science in business management
from Northwest Missouri State University. He is certified in
ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2000, as well as TS 16949. He has
received training in internal auditing from CSA and QAI for
several ISO standards. John is a member of the Kansas City
chapter of the American Society of Quality and a past member
of the Association for Operations Management.

Sumithra Lokugamage
Sumithra Lokugamage is a systems analyst for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community College
that provides a wide variety of training, development and
consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Sumithra came to Metropolitan Community College in
January 2008. Prior to joining MCC, she worked as a database
administrator for Cohen Esrey Real Estate Services,
where she designed and developed web-based information systems,
queried a SQL server database, maintained the company web site
and intranet, and created compliance reports for multifamily
properties. Prior to Cohen Esrey, she worked as a web developer
for Xceligent, Inc., where she designed web pages with ASP,
Java Script, VB Script, and SQL Server and Access databases.
Sumithra has more than15 years of experience in designing
and developing client-based and web-based computer information
systems. She has experience with Access databases, spreadsheet
applications and data conversions, and she has extensive
knowledge in designing SQL server databases and querying
databases.
Sumithra holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering
from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and a postgraduate
diploma in computer technology from the University of Colombo,
Sri Lanka. She holds a certificate in both Web Development and Database Management.
Sumithra’s project experience includes development of
ASP Net applications to display charts, weekly status reports,
cost analysis for property management, and she has also worked
on data conversions for software migrations. She designed and
developed web based applications for a cost accounting,
real estate listings and brokerage, and a help desk system using
SQL server databases and ASP.

Brenda Thomas
Brenda Thomas is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community College
that provides a wide variety of training, development and consulting
services to business and industry in and around metropolitan
Kansas City.
Brenda joined Metropolitan Community College in 1997 after
spending 15 years in human resource management in the private
sector for three different national corporations. She also spent
two years as coordinator of a Quality Involvement program,
conducting management, interpersonal skills, and team skills
training. As a performance consultant for MCC, Brenda helps
organizations improve their bottom line through improved employee
performance, which is achieved by hiring the right people and
providing training to address any critical gaps in knowledge,
skills, or abilities.
Brenda’s experience includes a broad range of industries:
manufacturing, education, health care and financial services.
She has extensive management experience and performance skills
training in the areas of leadership; employee relations;
performance improvement; organizational, individual, and
cultural development; self-directed work teams; recruitment
and hiring; and communications. Her detailed focus on analyzing
organizational needs, job tasks, skills, and requirements helps
organizations identify training and development needs, improve
recruitment and hiring practices, and improve management of the
organization’s work force.
Brenda holds a bachelor of science in industrial psychology
and a master of management science. She is a certified trainer in
AchieveGlobal, DDI, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, MOHR Retail Training, and ACT
WorkKeys Profiling. Her community involvement includes serving
as a long-time volunteer for the Girl Scouts.

Doug Young
Doug Young is a performance consultant for MCC Business &
Learning Solutions, a division of Metropolitan Community
College that provides a wide variety of training, development
and consulting services to business and industry in and around
metropolitan Kansas City.
Doug has been with MCC since 1997, when he began as adjunct
faculty at MCC-Business & Technology. Prior to MCC he spent
nearly 35 years in government service that began with the US
Air Force where he was an electronic technician working on air
traffic control radar. He then joined the Kansas City, Mo.
Water Services Department, where he spent more than 25 years
in various roles ranging from electronic technician to
electrical maintenance superintendent to engineer section head,
responsible for managing maintenance work groups within both
water and wastewater treatment. After an early retirement, he
went on to manage the water and wastewater facilities for the
City of Lee’s Summit.
Doug has more than 35 years of experience in the
electrical/electronics trades and has extensive experience in
industrial systems. He has worked on a wide variety of
equipment – from small electronic transmitters to 13,000
volt motors and switchgear. His management experience varies
from 4-person electrical crews to a 75-person multi-craft
maintenance section. He has also developed and taught
technical classes for the City of Kansas City, City of Lee’s
Summit and the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference.
Doug holds an associate of science in engineering from
MCC-Penn Valley, a bachelor of science in electronic
engineering technology from Missouri Western State College and
master of science in electrical engineering from Kansas State
University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri
and Nebraska and is licensed as a master electrician in Kansas
City, Missouri. He is also certified as an ISO/TS 16949 Quality
Lead Auditor.
Doug developed computerized maintenance management systems
(CMMS) for both Kansas City, Mo. Water Services and Lee’s Summit
Water Utilities. He was instrumental in major upgrades of
supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA)
for both utilities. He was the principal author of an EPA
required Vulnerability Assessment for the Lee’s Summit Water
Utilities. One key responsibility at both the Kansas City
and Lee’s Summit utilities was management of the section
budgets, which always came in under budget. This was especially
significant at Kansas City where the budget exceeded $4.5 million
and staying within the budget was not a routine occurrence.
