HISTORY
Metropolitan Community College (MCC) has been working with area
businesses for more than 25 years to improve workplace effectiveness
and remove barriers to peak performance. In 1995, MCC’s economic
development, industrial technical training, and customized business
training were consolidated into one facility, with the acquisition of the Business
& Technology Center (BTC). Built upon MCC’s strong partnerships with both
the local business community and the State of Missouri, the BTC became an
integral partner in workforce development and economic development efforts
throughout metropolitan Kansas City. Organizations like the Kansas City Area
Development Council and the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City
came to depend on the technical training facilities, skilled performance
consulting staff and other resources of the BTC to help attract new
businesses and jobs to the Kansas City area.
In 2002, the Business & Technology Center changed its name to
MCC-Business & Technology and officially became a college campus – the
fifth in MCC’s district. The MCC-Business & Technology campus (still
referred to as BTC) continued to provide contract training and consulting
services to manufacturing companies and other businesses, but now would
also provide a broad array of for-credit programs as well. As credit
programming grew, so did the need for business training and consulting.
Over time, it became clear that in order to better serve the business
community across the entire Kansas City metropolitan region and to
provide services for more business sectors, MCC needed to maximize
access to the training and education resources on each of our five
campuses. Therefore, in 2007, MCC Business & Learning Solutions was
established to serve the needs of businesses by offering high-quality
training and consulting services and innovative solutions to workplace
and workforce obstacles.
